چکیده

BACKGROUND This study explores the responses of the cardiovascular system as humans exercise in an oxygen-enriched room at high altitude under various concentrations of CO₂. METHODS The study utilized a hypobaric chamber set to the following specifications: 3800 m altitude with 25% O₂ and different CO₂ concentrations of 0.5% (C1), 3.0% (C2) and 5.0% (C3). Subjects exercised for 3 min three times, separated by 30 min resting periods in the above-mentioned conditions, at sea level (SL) and at 3800 m altitude (HA). The changes of heart rate variability, heart rate and blood pressure were analyzed. RESULTS Total power (TP) and high frequency power (HF) decreased notably during post-exercise at HA. HF increased prominently earlier the post-exercise period at 3800 m altitude with 25% O₂ and 5.0% CO₂ (C3), while low frequency power (LF) changed barely in all tests. The ratios of LF/HF were significantly higher during post-exercise in HA, and lower after high intensity exercise in C3. Heart rate and systolic blood pressure increased significantly in HA and C3. CONCLUSIONS Parasympathetic activity dominated in cardiac autonomic modulation, and heart rate and blood pressure increased significantly after high intensity exercise in C3.

Modeling of Combustion and Carbon Oxides Formation in Direct Injection Diesel Engine

When looking at the effects of diesel engine exhaust on the environment, it is important to first look at the composition of the exhaust gases. Over 99.5% of the exhaust gases are a  combination of  nitrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, and water. With the exception of carbon  dioxide, which contributes about  5% of the total volume, the diesel engine exhaust consists of  elements which are part of...

Influence of shielding gas composition on weld profile in pulsed Nd:YAG laser welding of low carbon steel

Weld area and weld depth/width ratio can be considered to be of the most important geometrical factors in pulsed laser welding. The effects of carbon dioxide and oxygen additions to the argon shielding gas on the weld properties in pulsed laser welding of low carbon steel is investigated. Presence of carbon dioxide and oxygen up to 10 and 15 percent respectively decreases the weld geometrical f...

Metabolic Adaptations May Counteract Ventilatory Adaptations of Intermittent Hypoxic Exposure during Submaximal Exercise at Altitudes up to 4000 m

Intermittent hypoxic exposure (IHE) has been shown to induce aspects of altitude acclimatization which affect ventilatory, cardiovascular and metabolic responses during exercise in normoxia and hypoxia. However, knowledge on altitude-dependent effects and possible interactions remains scarce. Therefore, we determined the effects of IHE on cardiorespiratory and metabolic responses at different s...

Comparison of the Effects of Open and Closed Endotracheal Suction on Cardiovascular and Ventilation Parameters for Patients Undergoing Mechanical Ventilation

Background and Objectives: Suction is a necessary and common method which aids in the release of secretion from the respiratory system for the patients who have undergone mechanical ventilation. One of the most common complications of suction is hypoxemia which causes dysrhythmia and death. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of open and closed-endotracheal suction on cardiov...

THE ACTIVATION OF CARBON DIOXIDE AT A MAGNESIUM (1 00) SURFACE THE ROLE OF OXYGEN TRANSIENTS

X-ray photoelectron and high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopic (XPS-HREELS) studies have shown that the adsorption of carbon dioxide at Mg(100) surfaces at 80K is followed by a dissociative reaction leading to the formation of a metastable surface carbonate above 80K. The formation of a carbonate species is proposed to proceed through oxidation of C0 (g) by an active oxygen su...
